POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
Brasserie OHNO
POKOTABIBrasserie OHNO in Gamo is a casual French restaurant known for a wide-ranging menu, from saury carpaccio and prawn ajillo to lunchtime tantanmen and European-style curry. It has counter seating and accepts cash only.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
One dish that left a lasting impression on a diner as an autumn special was lightly seared saury carpaccio. It was praised for its combination of shiso, a shiokara sauce and salad, and offers a reason to look beyond the meat dishes. Brasserie OHNO’s casual feel means there is no need to approach French dining formally: choose a dish that catches your eye. Another diner enjoyed steak frites and appetisers, and also mentioned being able to watch the cooking from the counter.
For a starter or a lighter plate, diners have ordered ajillo generously filled with prawns and fried conger eel. The bouillon-seasoned fries also made an impression on one diner. These dishes could make for a relaxed dinner of sharing small plates with wine. Among the meat options, roast beef and roast pork have their fans, too. Other diners have tried game and a tomato-based South Indian-style duck hot pot called Rassam nabe, showing that the menu reaches beyond French classics.
At lunchtime, some diners come specifically for the tantanmen, while one person who tried the European-style curry praised its depth of flavour and the just-right pickling of the accompanying pickles. Katsu curry is another lunch option, offering a different mood from the French dishes served in the evening.
The restaurant has counter and table seating, and is presented as suitable for dining alone. Brasserie OHNO is in Gamo, Joto Ward, Osaka City, and accepts cash only, so bear that in mind when paying. Dinner reservations are available.
